Vivian Hassett Powell, 96, widow of David Powell, died Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at her residence in Conway.
Mrs. Powell was born in Bradley, Ill. on December 3, 1918, a daughter of the late Mark Francis Hassett and Evelyn Hayhurst Hassett. She grew up in Kankakee, Ill. and graduated from Kankakee High School. Mrs. Powell moved to Georgetown in 1945. She was a former Board member of Helping Hands and a Red Cross Volunteer. Mrs. Powell was a communicant of Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church, where she was a member of the St. Anne Chapter of Episcopal Church Women and a former church secretary.
Surviving are: a son, David Powell,, Jr. (Kristy) of Conway; a daughter, Marteen Powell Deierlein (Stephen) of Blythewood; three grandchildren, Grant David Powell, Caroline D. Lowder (John), and Sarah Scott; and two great-grandchildren, Gage W. Lowder and Griffin Rivers Scott. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Powell was predeceased by a grandchild, Stephen Deierlein.
Memorial services will be held at two o'clock on Saturday afternoon, January 24, 2015, at Prince George, Winyah, Episcopal Church. Officiating will be The Very Rev. Paul C. Fuener. Inurnment will follow in the Churchyard.
