Georgetown:
Wallace Arthur Blakely, 81, husband of Nan Smith Blakely, died Wednesday, June 15, 2016, at Tidelands Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Blakely was born in Williamsburg Co. on November 26, 1934, a son of the late William Arthur Blakely and Lola Louise McKnight Blakely. He grew up in the Suttons community of Williamsburg County, graduated from Williamsburg High School, and attended Spartanburg Methodist College. He was a member of Wayne United Methodist Church and served his church as a former choir member, Sunday School Teacher, Certified Lay Speaker, and member of the Administrative Board. Mr. Blakely enjoyed singing and sang at many weddings and funerals. He was also an avid gardener.
Mr. Blakely retired as manager of the Georgetown Office of Atlantic Coast Life Insurance Company. He was a Past President of the Life Underwriters Association in Georgetown and a member and Past President of the Georgetown Lions Club. He also was a Past President of the Andrews Jaycees and was a volunteer ambulance driver in Andrews. Mr. Blakely was a mason and member of Winyah Lodge #40, AFM.
Surviving in addition to his wife of Georgetown: three daughters; Karen B. Newton (David), Deana B. Crayton (Sammy) of Georgetown and Elizabeth B. Turner (Bee) of Columbia, two brothers; Beverly O. Blakely (JoAnn) of Hanahan and Harold D. Blakely (Helen) of Andrews; five grandchildren; Josh Newton, Sam Crayton, Matt Turner, Ragan Turner, and Christopher Turner; and two great-granddaughters, Rylee Newton and Lily Turner.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Blakely was predeceased by: a grandson; Daniel J. Newton; and a brother, Reynold Blakely.
Funeral services will be eleven o'clock Friday morning, June 17, 2016, at Wayne United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Daniel W. Chamblee. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends in the church sanctuary prior to the service on Friday from ten until eleven o'clock.
