Pawleys Island:
Walter Earl Rice, 83, widower of Audrey Doris Rice, died Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at his residence.
Mr. Rice was born in Malden, Mass. on April 24, 1928, a son of the late Roger William Rice and Mildred Smith Lord Rice. He grew up outside of Boston, Mass., graduated from Providence Bible Institute, which became Gordon College, and received his Master's Degree from C. W. Post at Long Island University. Mr. Rice served as Minister for the Evangelical Free Church in Middletown, N.Y. and Lynbrook, N.Y. He then moved to Port Jefferson, N.Y., where he was a school principal until he retired and moved to Pawleys Island twenty-one years ago. Mr. Rice was a past president of the Oak Lea Community Association.
Mr. Rice was an active member of Pawleys Island Presbyterian Church and an Elder of the church. He was a co-founder of the Scholarship Committee, involved in the Bread of Life, and active in the Men's Group of the church.
Surviving are: a son, Kenneth Wayne Rice (Lorraine) of Bell Terre, N.Y. and New York, N.Y.; a daughter, Linda R. Chase of Port Jefferson, N.Y.; a sister, Evelyn McCleary of Medford, Mass.; and six grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Rice was predeceased by: a sister, Mildred Murphy; and a brother, Roger Rice.
Funeral services will be at ten o'clock Wednesday morning, February 8, 2012, at Pawleys Island Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Frank Holsclaw. Burial will follow in the Churchyard. A reception will follow the service in the Church Fellowship Hall.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 7, 2012, at the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home from four until seven o'clock.
