Georgetown
Walter Raleigh "Red" Turbeville passed away September 25 surrounded by family.
Born in St. George, South Carolina on Nov. 28, 1921, he spent his childhood in Columbia, South Carolina and attended the University of South Carolina and Erskine College. He entered the air force on Dec. 8, 1941 and served four years in the England Army Air Force.
After moving to Georgetown, Walter worked as the General Superintendent at Ryan-Walsh Stevedoring Co. He and his family split their time between Georgetown and Pawley's Island where he served several terms on the town counsel, and his beach house, Topsy Turby, is the heart of countless memories.
The son of the late W.R. Turbeville and Elizabeth Lathan Turbeville, he is survived by his beloved wife, Beverly Ann Isaac Turbeville; sister, Jean Paul Williams; and three children Celeste Heller (Scott), Clint Turbeville (Irene), and Glenn E. Turbeville (Jackie). He will be missed dearly by his seven grandchildren: Kate, Jackson, Hayden, Glenn Elisabeth, Adam, Erin and Clint.
The family will receive friends for a visitation at St. Mary's Parish Hall on Monday, Sept. 27, 2010, from 6 – 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church on Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2010, at 1 p.m.
