Andrews:
Walter Edward "Ed" Watford, Sr., 88, widower of Lila Elizabeth Ward Watford, passed away Monday, April 18, 2016, at his residence.
Mr. Watford was born in Florence Co. on June 19, 1927, a son of the late Mack Cleveland Watford and Bertie Maybelle McKenzie Watford. He grew up in Andrews and graduated from Williamsburg High School. Mr. Watford served in the US Navy during World War II and served as the Chaplin for the American Legion Post #69. Mr. Watford served as voter Poll Manager for numerous years. He worked for various corporations as a salesman and later was the owner and manager of Watford's Oceda Grocery until retiring in 1986. He was a member of Gourdine's Chapel, where he served as a deacon, usher, and member of the Building Fund Committee.
Surviving are: a son, David M. Watford (June) of Andrews; a daughter, Linda W. Prince (Stan) of Lititz, PA; two brothers, Bob "Bobby" C. Watford (Jean) and Hayward Watford (Myrtle), both of Andrews; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Watford was predeceased by: his wife; a son, Walter E. Watford, Jr; a grandson, Walter "Shane" E. Watford, III; three brothers, Earl Watford, Benjamin "B. B." Watford, and Lucas Watford; and a sister, Nellie W. Ray.
Funeral services will be eleven o'clock on Thursday morning, April 21, 2016, at Gourdine's Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Randy Gamble and the Rev. Themos Cribb. Burial will follow at Ivey Cemetery.
