Wayne Grant Burdette, 56 died Tuesday, May 15, 2007 in Roper Hospital in Charleston.
Wayne was born in Albuquerque, N. Mex. on April 8, 1951, a son of Helen H. Holcomb and the late Elmer G. Burdette. He worked for over 30 years as a professional bassist, beginning his career with "The Ravens" while still in high school in Detroit, Mich. After moving to Atlanta, Ga. in the 1970's, Wayne performed and recorded with national blues acts Luther "Houserocker" Johnson, "Chicago" Bob Nelson and The Heart Fixers, Jimmy Thackery and The Drivers, and Tinsley Ellis. He toured the world during his long career, and contributed to over nine blues albums before retiring to McClellanville. Wayne was a member of Rosedale Presbyterian Church in Livonia, Mich.
Survivors include: his wife, Patty Roberts Burdette of McClellanville; two step-sons, Justin Hettich of McClellanville and Joshua Hettich of Jensen Beach, Fla.; his mother and step-father, Helen and Don Holcomb of Edgewater, Fla.; a brother, Jeffrey Burdette of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Diane Reeves of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; and a granddaughter, Caroline Hettich of McClellanville.
A private memorial celebration was held at the family home in McClellanville.
