Wilbur Roslyn "Rossie" Chandler died peacefully at Tidelands Hospice Saturday, August 29, 2009 after a long and well-lived life.
Mr. Chandler was born on December 19, 1916 in Swainsboro, GA., a son of the late William Roslyn and Mary Harriett Small Chandler. He was reared and educated in Williamsburg County and spent all of his adult life in Georgetown. He served his country with honor during WWII as a member of the SC Army National Guard in North Africa and Italy. He retired from International Paper Company after 37 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Gertrude Thomas Chandler and two daughters, Wilmer C. Richardson (Doug), Clemson and Linda C. Hansen (Ralph), Richmond Hill, GA. He is also survived by five grandchildren: David Richardson (Jennifer), Charlotte, NC; Ted Richardson (Robin), Chapel Hill, NC; Roslyn H. Woehrman (Scott), Bremerton, WA; Christine H. Albrecht (Aaron) of Atlanta, GA; and R. John Hansen, III Seattle, WA. Through them, he is survived by six great-grandchildren: Jeff, Brian and Michael Richardson, Chapel Hill, NC; Ben and Alex Richardson, Charlotte, NC; and Madeline Gertrude Woehrman, Bremerton, WA. Also surviving him are three sisters: Mildred C. Gilliam, Ruth C. Ripley, Marjorie C. Fretwell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Chandler is preceded in death by brothers W. Watson Chandler, J. Stuart Chandler, Harold S. Chandler; and sisters Margaret C. James, Louise C. Lesesne, Harriett C. Worley and younger brother J.C. Small.
Funeral services will be held at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church at 4:00 PM, Monday, August 31 with internment following the service in Elmwood Cemetery.
The family will receive family and friends in the church parlor one hour prior to the service.
