Obituary

Georgetown: William Earl "Bill" Skipper, 91, husband of Mary Robbins Skipper, peacefully passed away Thursday, February 17, 2022, at his residence. He was born in Lancaster, SC on May 2, 1930, a son of George Leo Skipper and Esther Omitt Walters. He grew up in Williamsburg County and graduated from Williamsburg High School. He attended Columbia College He was a member of the Georgetown Pentecostal Holiness Church for 64 years. He held many offices, was a Sunday School teacher, a member of the men's fellowship, a leader of the Royal Rangers Boys club, a deacon of the church, and a supporter of the missions around the world, He started working at International Paper Marineway in 1948 as a cook on the tugboats and was promoted through the ranks to Captain and then Port Captain until the tugs were disbanded and he then started a career in computers until his retirement in 1986. He was in the U. S. Army from 1951-1953 and stationed in Gelnhausen, Germany during the Korean Conflict as a flamethrower. He attended the coronation of Queen Elizabeth and was chosen to be in the Guard of General Eisenhower. He was a member and past President of the Georgetown Lions Club, the PTA, and the Toastmasters Club. He was also a member of DRUSA (disaster relief Team) and SCIPHC (mobile feeding kitchen started by Rev. Mark Potter). He attended the inauguration of President Ronald Reagan. He loved to fish, read, draw, and was an avid craftsman building toys and furniture for his grandchildren. He also loved traveling and visited every state in the continental US, across Canada, and Nova Scotia. Bill loved a good joke, his family, tugboats, and Suttons. He is predeceased by: his father, George Leo Skipper, his mother, Esther Omitt W. Skipper, his sister, Myrtle S. Price, a sister, Mary S. Howard, brother, Thomas E. Skipper, sister, Betty S. Cooper. Surviving are: his wife, Mary R. Skipper of Georgetown; son, Robin E. Skipper (Debbie) of Columbia; a daughter, Renee S. Nelson, (Rocky) of Myrtle Beach, daughter, Rhonda S. Perry (Tony) of Myrtle Beach, grandsons, Anthony Perry (Amy) of Myrtle Beach, Austin Perry of Myrtle Beach, granddaughters, Heather N. Pandiani (Travis) of Myrtle Beach, Jeanne-Marie S. Bolin (Richard) of Columbia, Abigail E. Perry of Myrtle Beach, Jessica E. Skipper (Trey) of Columbia. One great-granddaughter, Jessianna Hinson, and six great-grandsons, Brycen Bolin, Edison Perry, Marcus Bolin, Elliott Perry, Williams Quarles, Carter Bolin and two sisters, Alberta S. Bratcher of Georgetown and Wyllene Skipper of Hot Springs, NC. He leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be two o'clock Sunday afternoon, February 20, 2022, in the Nelson-Skipper Cemetery at Suttons, 1584 Santee Road, Andrews. Officiating will be the Rev. Wyllene Skipper, the Rev. Greg Thompson, and the Rev. Craig Tedder. The family will receive friends at the residence, 606 Olive Street, Georgetown, on Saturday February 19, 2022 from one until.
