Obituary

William Mitchell "Billy" Killen passed away quietly on April 30, 2024, with his children and family members by his side.

Billy was born in Florence, South Carolina on August 10,1949. He was the son of James Thomas Killen, Jr. and Ruth Mitchell Killen. Billy grew up in a loving family on Willowbank Road in Georgetown, South Carolina. He graduated from Winyah High School in1967 where he excelled in both basketball and football. He was a member of the high school social club called Staats Rathskeller, which continues with reunions today. He graduated from the Baptist College at Charleston in 1974 with a major in Sociology. He was a member of Nu Kappa Alpha Fraternity and kept in touch with members for many years.

After graduation Billy returned to Georgetown and taught Physical Education and coached soccer at Winyah Academy. He discovered an interest in construction and became a General Contractor at Litchfield Beach and the Pawleys Island area. He spent several years in the Charlotte area as a Project Manager for Dressler Construction.

Billy was well known for his "flip flop" casual lifestyle. He was devoted to his beloved ShihTsu, Spurry. He and Spurry spent many hours walking and visiting with friends in his neighborhood in late afternoons and always cheering on his beloved Gamecocks.

Billy is survived by his daughter, Kari (Keith) Jordan, a son Rivers (Erin) Killen, his grandchildren William Killen, Quinn Killen, and Eliza Jordan, a brother Jimmy (Vicki) Killen, several nieces and nephews, and Flo Miller Phillips, former spouse. They all brought him such joy and he loved them with all his heart.
