Pawleys Island:
William Griffin Graves II, 94, husband of Mary Elise Brownell (Meb) Graves, died Sunday, July 31, 2016, at Waccamaw Community Hospital in Murrells Inlet.
Mr. Graves was born in Mebane, NC, on September 10, 1921, a son of the late Felix Williamson Graves and Mary Clark Graves. He grew up in Mebane and graduated from Mebane High School. He received a bachelor's degree in Aeronautical Engineering from NC State University. Mr. Graves served in the US Air Force during WW II and later in the Air Force Reserves and retired as a Lt. Colonel. He worked as an Aeronautical Engineer for the Western Electric Company in Burlington, NC for 35 years until his retirement. Mr. and Mrs. Graves moved to Pawleys Island over 30 years ago and have been members of All Saints Church. They have been married for 71 years, and Mr. Graves felt he was so blessed to have had such a wonderful life. He was a very loving and nurturing brother, husband, father, uncle, and grandfather. He dedicated his life to his wife Meb, all of his family, church and community. He was a friend to all and very beloved and respected.
Surviving in addition to his wife are: a son, Jeffrey B. Graves (Mary) of Chagrin Falls, OH; a daughter, Katherine G. Clark (Victor) of Davidson, NC; a daughter-in-law, Karen Landry Graves; seven grandchildren, Colleen Graves Bagne (Alex), Kara Graves Ashby (Alan), Meghan Graves Laws (Bill), Matthew William Clark, Morgan Clark Galdi (Andy), Scott Christopher Graves, and Mark Landry Graves (Christy); and ten great-grandchildren, Madeline and Kaitlin (Ashby); James, Jack, Josephine, and Julia (Bagne); Abagail, Griffin and Emmaline (Laws); and William Griffin Graves, IV.
Predeceased in addition to his parents are: a son, William Griffin Graves, III, two brothers, Edward and Dick Graves; five sisters, Margaret Graves Patchell, Anne Graves Aldridge, Lily Graves St. John, Mary Graves King, and Elizabeth Graves Spence.
Funeral Services will be held at eleven o'clock on Thursday, August 4, 2016, at Old All Saints Church, Pawleys Island. Officiating will be the Rev. Clay Millener. Burial will follow in All Saints Cemetery. A reception will follow immediately after the service in the Acts Building.
