William A. Hudson, Sr. Colonel, United States Army (Retired), age 83 died Friday, November 25, 2011.
Col. Hudson was born February 20, 1928 in Berryton, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Annie Hudson, and his sister, Jimmie Hudson Wilson. He graduated from Georgia Military College and the University of Georgia. He entered the US Army in the summer of 1951. He served with valor as a rifle platoon leader and company commander in the 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division during the Korean Conflict. Colonel Hudson held positions of distinction throughout his military career, in addition to serving two tours of combat duty in the Vietnam War. He retired from Active Military service with 30 years of service in October 1980. His last tour of duty was at Fort Bragg, NC where he had served previous assignments. Colonel Hudson's awards and decorations include the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Bronze Star Medal with Valor, Purple Heart, and the Legion of Merit. Colonel Hudson was also awarded the Infantry Order of Saint Maurice. Upon retirement he entered a career in real estate in Georgetown County.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth Anne Muller Hudson, his sons, Colonel William A. Hudson, Jr. USA (Retired), of Annandale, VA., Colonel Walter Joseph Muller Hudson, USA of Fort Lewis, WA and daughter, Frances Elizabeth Hudson of Myrtle Beach. He leaves two daughters- in- law, Gaye H. Hudson of Annandale, VA and Laura K. Hudson of Fort Lewis WA. Colonel Hudson had 3 grandchildren, William A Hudson, III, Rachel E. Hudson and Anna F. Hudson.
The family will receive guests at the Mayer Funeral Home, 222 St. James Street in Georgetown on Sunday, November 27, 2011, from 6-7 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary Our Lady of Ransom Catholic Church in Georgetown at 11am Monday, November 28, 2011. Officiating will be the Rev. Ronald J. Ferrell. Colonel Hudson will be interred with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
