Andrews:
William Holmes McConnell, Sr., 92, died Saturday, December 20, 2008, at Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
Mr. McConnell was born in Fairfield Co. on May 10, 1916, a son of the late William Thomas McConnell and Lila Duke McConnell. He grew up in Jenkinsville and graduated from Jenkinsville High School. Mr. McConnell served in the Army during World War II. He worked for National Bread Co. and Claussen's Bread Co. for a time and retired from American Tobacco Co. After retirement, Mr. McConnell worked for a time as a Pinkerton security guard.
Mr. McConnell was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Garris Bible Class. He was also a member of American Legion Post # 69.
Mr. McConnell was predeceased by: a grandson, Thomas E. Genutis; three brothers; and two sisters.
Surviving are: his wife, Caroline Viohl McConnell of Andrews; a son, William H. (Cathy) McConnell, Jr. of Austin, Tex.; two daughters, Betty M. (Tom) Genutis of Irmo and Caroline M. (Al) Lewis of Andrews; a brother, Charlie A. McConnell of Georgetown; three sisters, Mary Crosby of Vero Beach, Fla., and Edith Koon and Margaret McConnell, both of W. Columbia.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be eleven o'clock Tuesday morning, December 23, 2008, at Trinity United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Sandra Stevens Poirel. Burial will follow at three o'clock in Live Oak Memorial Gardens in Charleston.
