Pawley's Island: William Clarke Miller, Jr., 87, died Saturday, March 6, 2004, at the Lakes at Litchfield. Mr. Miller was born in Chester on January 13, 1917, a son of the late William Clarke Miller and Margaret Hamilton Henry Miller. He was a graduate of Erskine College in Due West and earned a Masters Degree in Food Technology from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Mr. Miller was retired in 1971 as an administrator with the U.S. Public Health Service. He lived in Chicago, Ill and West Medford, Mass. for a time and for most of his professional life in Bethesda, Md. Mr. Miller moved to Litchfield Beach after his retirement. He was a member of Georgetown Presbyterian Church and was a former Elder. Surviving are: his wife, Leila Bradley Miller of Pawley's Island; two sons, Rev. James B. Miller of Pittsburgh, Pa. and William C. Miller, III of Bethesda, Md.; four brothers, Robert W. Miller of Kingsport, Tenn., Sherwood B. Miller of Lancaster, John H. Miller of Bartow, Fla., and T. Dalton Miller of Roanoke, Va.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Miller was predeceased by a brother, Henry K. Miller. Funeral services will be one o'clock Tuesday afternoon, March 9, 2004 at the graveside in Old Purity Cemetery in Chester. A memorial service will be two o'clock Wednesday afternoon, March 10, 2004 at Georgetown Presbyterian Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. J. Ben Sloan and the Rev. Dr. James B. Miller.
