William Earl Mullen

William Earl Mullen, 79, of Pawleys Island, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on September 1st, 2026.

Born on March 27, 1947, in Darlington, Wisconsin, he called Wisconsin, Georgia, and Oklahoma home throughout his life before retiring to Pawleys Island in 2009 to be closer to his family.

William enjoyed a successful career in the risk management industry and retired as an Assistant Vice President with Aon in 2012. He was respected by colleagues and friends alike for his professionalism, dedication, and ability to connect with people.

William had a unique talent for captivating a room with his stories. Whether gathered around a dinner table, on a golf course, or playing cards with family and friends, he could make any occasion memorable with his wit, humor, and larger-than-life personality. He was always ready for a card game and eagerly anticipated each season of the Mullen Fantasy Football League.

Some of William's most cherished memories were made at the “beach house” in Pawleys Island, where countless hours were spent enjoying time with loved ones. A passionate sports fan, he took pride in watching his grandchildren compete and celebrate their accomplishments. An avid golfer, William enjoyed many golf trips with friends over the years and treasured the camaraderie those adventures provided. He also looked forward to annual trips to Las Vegas with friends and family for March Madness, creating memories that will be fondly remembered.

His grandchildren held a special place in his heart, and he treasured every opportunity to spend time with them.

William was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Lennatta Mullen; his sister, Sheila Harder; and his nephews, Brad Ingwell and Andrew Schmitt.

He is survived by his daughter, Sarah (Todd) Rodenbeck of South Carolina; his son, Tim (Katie) Mullen of Wisconsin; his beloved grandchildren, Grace and Ben Rodenbeck, and Thomas and Maya Mullen; his sisters Jacqueline Ferris (Madison), Charlene Spolen (Florida) as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Evie, whose compassionate care, friendship, and dedication over the past year have brought comfort and support to William and his loved ones.
