Trio:
William Lewis Ward, 88, died Friday, May 26, 2006, at his residence.
Mr. Ward was born in Williamsburg Co. on February 13, 1918, a son of the late Sampson Ward and Lizzie Louise Barrineau Ward. He lived all his life in Williamsburg Co. and was a retired employee of Georgetown Textile Manufacturing Co. Mr. Ward participated in the Normandy Invasion while serving in the Army during World War II. He was a member of Trio United Methodist Church and Camping Pond Hunting Club.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Ward was predeceased by: two brothers, Raymond Ward and Bryant Ward; a sister, Tinker Pierce; and a granddaughter, Kimberly Altman.
Surviving are: his wife, Oneta Singleton Ward of Trio; three sons, Tommy Hughes and his wife Pat of Andrews, Larry Hughes and his wife Cynthia and Eddie Hughes and his wife Ann, all of Trio; a daughter, Shirley Small of Georgetown; four brothers, Woodrow Ward and Franklin R. Ward, both of Georgetown, Norman Ward of Charleston, and Julian Ward of Trio; a sister, Virginia Mae Cooper of Aiken; seven grandchildren; Melissa King, Tracy Corcoran, Tiffany Morris, Jennifer Hughes, Joey Small, Norman Hughes, and Kristy Small; and ten great-grandchildren, Andrew Herring, Lee King, Daniel King, Hunter Musser, Gavin Corcoran, Tyler Brown, Katie Brown, Doug Altman, Ashlyn Small, and Johnathan Hughes.
Funeral services will be two o'clock Monday afternoon, May 29, 2006, at Trio United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. J. Robert Huggins. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens in Georgetown.
