Obituary

Georgetown: Wilson O. "Sam" Grayson, 86, husband of 67 years to Barbara W. Grayson, died Saturday, November 21, 2015, surrounded by loving family members, at his residence. Mr. Grayson was born in Charleston on August 5, 1929, a son of the late Arthur Grayson and Thelma Wilson Grayson. Sam came to Georgetown after he married his wife Barbara and was employed by International Paper Company as a welder. During this time he opened Sam's Office Supplies in a garage near his home. From these humble beginnings he was able to continue what is still today Sam's Office Furniture Warehouse. He was very active in civic projects for the good of Georgetown. Sam served in the National Guard. He played Semi Professional Baseball for many years and loved the sport. He was known as "Suitcase Sammy". Mr. Grayson was an avid hunter and fisherman. He taught his children at an early age about the outdoors and enjoyed every minute he spent with his children doing what he loved. Sam was a member and Sunday school superintendent at Georgetown Presbyterian Church for many years. He taught Sunday school and formed the Rod and Gun Club to teach the boys in the church to hunt, fish, and enjoy the outdoors as much as he did. Sam insisted the boys attend Sunday School every Sunday or they would not be able to go on the weekend outings. Sam never met a stranger and always lent a hand where needed to anyone in need. Some of his fondest memories were of people he met along his life journey. Surviving in addition to his wife of Georgetown, are: two daughters, Debbie G. (Andrew) Bone of Myrtle Beach and Carol G. (Ben) Williams of Rose Hill; a son, Wilson "Sammy" Grayson, Jr. of Georgetown; a sister, Judy Crunk of Summerville; six grandchildren, William G. Stone, Bengie Williams (Lynn), Ashley Carey (Brent), Patrick Williams, Keenan Harn (Jason) and Wilson Grayson; three Great-grandchildren, Mary Alice Harn, Thomas Carey, and Paige Williams Sam was predeceased by a brother, Burnette Grayson.
