Winfred Napoleon Spear, Jr., 80, passed away on Monday, August 31, 2026. He was born October 19, 1945, at Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, a son of the late Winfred N. Spear and Susan E. Jordan.

Winfred shared 62 years of marriage with his wife, Brenda Dorris Spear. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose greatest joy was his family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Lora Etheridge (Bert) and Belinda K. Spear; grandchildren, Michaela Etheridge (Phillip Thomas), James Dalton Etheridge (Sofia “Pia”), Alexis Jolly, and Amber Jolly; and great-grandchildren, Ayden Rutherford, Alijah Rutherford, Colton Thomas, and Emily Thomas.

Winfred had a wide range of interests and was an avid collector of knives, guns, and antiques. A Civil War buff, he enjoyed studying history and collecting pieces that reflected the past. He was also a talented woodworker who enjoyed working with his hands and creating things that could be appreciated for years to come. And somewhere along the way, the family’s Chihuahuas earned a special place with him, too.

While his collections and hobbies brought him many years of enjoyment, nothing was more important to Winfred than the people he loved. His family was always at the center of his life, and the time spent with them meant more to him than anything he could ever collect.

A memorial service will be announced once arrangements are complete.
