Georgetown:

Winifred Anne "Tootie" Ballard Poit, 94, wife of the late Fenton L. Poit, died Thursday, December 8, 2022, at her residence with her loving children by her side.

Mrs. Poit was born in Georgetown on May 5, 1928, a daughter of the late Lee Cannon Ballard and Winifred Rouse Ballard. Winifred was the youngest daughter of Lee and Winifred Rouse Ballard. Mrs. Poit graduated Winyah High School in 1945, and attended Lander College for two years.  After WWII "Tootie" married Fenton Poit in 1947 at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church where she was a member for her entire life. Mrs. Poit had a great love for all animals. She was a Scout Den Mother to so many young scouts. Winifred was the owner and operator of The Timely Treasure for over thirty years. Winifred was a wonderful seamstress and loved working with her plants. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and her grands new her as "Meme".

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Poit was predeceased by five siblings, Lee Cannon Ballard, Sr., Kenneth Earl Ballard, Gerald Ballard, Reginald Prince Ballard and Caryl Jeanne Ballard Cathou.

Surviving are: two daughters; Gayle Evelyn Poit Banner (Paul) of Lexington; Melanie Caryl Poit Daniels (James Charlie "Chip") of Georgetown, two sons, Fenton L. "Buddy" Poit , Jr. (Donna) and Peter Eric Poit both of Georgetown; two grandchildren, Paul Christopher Banner and Angel Banner Dupree (Hal Pedersen): great-grandchildren; Carson Banner, Isabella Dupree, Brook Banner-Hallman, Monroe Paul Pedersen: great-greatgrandchildren; Savanah Rose Hallman, Pascal Eugene Hallman and a special niece Jeanne Cathou and many other nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be three o'clock Sunday, December 11, 2022, at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Ross Chellis, and the Rev. Dr. Dora Gafford. Burial will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends prior to the service in the church parlor from two until three o'clock.
