Our History

In the fall of 1936, the Mayer families purchased Farrelly Undertaking Company and opened for business on November 11, 1936. On January 1, 1938, Mayer Funeral Home moved to its location in the Historic District of downtown Georgetown. R. T. "Bob" Mayer and Mrs. Isabel Etheredge Mayer managed the business until his death in 1962. Since 1970, Mr. Mayer's son, Robert T. "Bobby" Mayer, Jr., has managed the firm until his retirement in the spring of 2022.

In 1957, Mayer Funeral Home opened a branch chapel in Andrews. The Georgetown and Andrews chapels together allow the funeral home to effectively serve all of Georgetown County, as well as parts of Williamsburg, Charleston, and Horry Counties.

Patrick T. Ethridge, who has been affiliated with Mayer Funeral Home since the fall of 2001 as a Funeral Director & Embalmer, acquired the Funeral Home and Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens Cemetery in the spring of 2022.

In 2024, Mayer-Ethridge Funeral Home acquired Graham Funeral Home Real Estate in Maryville as part of the expansion to serve the community. We are always available to meet your funeral and cremation needs at our three convenient locations, Downtown Chapel, Andrews Chapel & Maryville Chapel.
